Poblano Eggs Benedict @ Miti Miti
Sorry for the two consecutive Mexican style benedicts, but both were unexpected. We didn't realize we were still in time for brunch last week at El Vez, and this week, the originally planned brunch spot was too crowded for our group and Miti Miti was Plan B. However, I would encourage you to make this brunch Plan A because it was A-mazing. Cheesy, I know, but this was a very good benedict.
Base: English muffin. There was a benedict option served on arepas, but previous experience with arepas have been disappointing. Luckily, they had this second option served on a traditional muffin and it turned out very well. It held up well (though it wasn't harshly tested), and served as a solid base for everything else.
Score: 4
Non-Egg Protein: Ham and rajas (sautéed poblanos and onions). The ham looked a little disappointing at first since it is thin slice of deli meat with only a quick grill for the marks. It wasn't exactly warm either. However, the rajas were amazing. The onions and poblano peppers were so flavorful and really the star of the benedict, as they should be since it is named for them. If not for the ham, try this benedict for the rajas.

Eggs: Not great. I know the eggs should be the star, but if they're going to play second fiddle to an unusual middle layer, they should at least be cooked properly. To be fair, we went with a fairly large group at 1pm, generally a very busy brunch time. There was some runny yolk to cover the other elements, but there was also a large layer of hard boiled yolks that surrounded it in both eggs. Other people at the table had similar experiences, but it would be worth another try when they are less busy.

Sauce: Jalapeño hollandaise. This has also generally been a disappointment with Mexican benedicts where the sauce is advertised as hollandaise but you wouldn't know it by tasting. Not the case here. The first taste of hollandaise was actually had a jalapeño flavor. Not just chopped up peppers that provided a kick when you get a piece, but the sauce actually tasted like jalapeños. It was very good.
Score: 5
Sides: Potato hash. The potatoes were cooked well, maybe a little too mushy since they were still in potato shapes. The flavor was really good though and there were more than enough to go with everything else.
Score: 3
Bonus: Unlimited drinks for 1.5 hours for $15. The drink selections included a variety of flavored mimosas (mango, pomegranate, guava, and lavender), bloody mary, or beer. There is also a $20 option that would include margaritas, sangria, and sangrita (a combination of frozen margs and sangria). The waitress was very attentive, encouraging us to flag her down if we needed more drinks. She also offered to take a picture of our group, something I've never head of a waiter/waitress doing, and she did this all with a huge smile. Plus, the decor was colorful and fun, making the overall experience top notch all around.
