Welcome to Benedict Pics where I'm on a quest to find the best Eggs Benedict in Brooklyn. Or Manhattan. Really this is just an excuse to go to brunch and order Eggs Benedict every time. But ratings makes things official!

Eggs Benedict @ Hudson Hills

Eggs Benedict @ Hudson Hills

We're on a bit of a field trip this time while brunching before a hike in Cold Springs. There are a few brunch options if you're planning on coming to this little town for the hiking or antiquing, and based on the crowds, Hudson Hills could arguably be the most popular. They actually serve breakfast all day, so if you want to wait until after hiking for their great breakfast menu, that is an option. But if you're planning to fuel up for a hike with a benedict, here's what you might expect.

Base: English muffin. Pretty basic, but a bit thin and too lightly toasted. They were a little big for the egg size, but not overwhelmingly so. Overall nothing special, but nothing too negative either.
Score: 3

Non-Egg Protein: House cured Canadian bacon. You can probably tell by the picture, but there was not enough here. It was also very thin. It tasted fine when I could taste it, but there just wasn't enough to make a balanced benedict. Like the muffin, it was nothing special.
Score: 3

Eggs: Both of mine were overcooked, though not too much. Other people at the table seemed to have slightly better eggs, but all were somewhat over. To be fair, this restaurant was very crowded like I said, with a pretty long wait so I'm sure the kitchen was slammed. And the food came out very quickly for the crowd level so I'm assuming there was a great precooking effort underway that led to the overcooked eggs. And there was still enough runny yolk to make this a satisfactory benedict.
Score: 7

Not super runny but good enough

Still lots of liquid. Not pictured: thick inner layer of yolk

Sauce: Hollandaise. There was certainly plenty of sauce on this benedict. It was a little buttery by itself, but not bad when combined with everything. It was pretty standard and helped pull the dish together. It was enough to put the muffin to the test, which didn't really hold up as it was undertoasted. But the sauce was fine.
Score: 3

Sides: Country potatoes. They were cooked well and were plentiful. They had a nice consistency and cook level. There were a few peppers hiding at the bottom that would have been nice to have throughout, but the side wasn't advertised as having peppers so I can't dock points for not having many.
Score: 4

Total Score: 20/30
