Welcome to Benedict Pics where I'm on a quest to find the best Eggs Benedict in Brooklyn. Or Manhattan. Really this is just an excuse to go to brunch and order Eggs Benedict every time. But ratings makes things official!

St. James Benedict Breakfast @ Rustik Tavern

St. James Benedict Breakfast @ Rustik Tavern

Rustik Tavern is a surprisingly versatile restaurant that works just as well for Friday happy hour as it does for weekend brunch. The fireplace and brick interior makes the space cozy while the spacious backyard allows for enjoyable outdoor dining when the weather cooperates. The menu also covers a range for whatever brunch mood you are in, ranging from salads and burgers to the traditional brunch entrees. Naturally for this blog, one of those is an eggs benedict. Here is the breakdown.

So much salad...not necessarily a bad thing

Base: English Muffin. It was nicely toasted so that was good, but it was the large muffin variety. I've been over this before where too big of a base messes with the ratios for the entire dish, and that's definitely true here.
Score: 3

Non-Egg Protein: Sliced Prosciutto. Usually prosciutto is not my favorite for a benedict because it tends to be so thin, but this was a generous portion and slightly thicker than usual. Which was a good thing because of the extra large muffin. I maintain it would have been even better with a smaller muffin, but the amount provided did help.
Score: 4

Eggs: Perfect. Again. I don't know if places just figured out how to make poached eggs, but this is the second consecutive benedict with perfect eggs. With the perfectly cooked eggs, there was plenty of yolk to go with the prosciutto, really enhancing the meat. It would have been great if the yolk could have lasted for the size of the muffin, but that's the muffin's fault, not the egg.

The gif didn't turn out well for this one, but you can still see that it's good

That's better...

That's better...

Sauce: Sirachi Hollandaise. Yes, sirachi. I couldn't actually find anything online that indicated this would be different than sriracha, but it didn't seem like there was anything extra in the sauce anyway. It was a pretty standard hollandaise, but a little on the buttery side which actually also worked very well with the meat. Salt and butter: can't go wrong. That said, there could have been more, and not just because the muffin was large.
Score: 3

Sides: Mixed greens. As you can see from the picture, there was plenty of salad. It is always nice when there is enough salad to outweigh the need for potatoes so we can pretend it's kind of healthy. There was a good amount of delicious dressing and some tomato pieces thrown in for good measure. I didn't really enjoy the raw onion slices because the flavor became so overpowering, but it was a solid salad.
Score: 4

Bonus: Rustik Tavern does have a bottomless brunch for $30 per person total. They weren't quite as on top of the refills as other places, but the bellinis and mimosas were strong. I'm pretty sure we went over the 90 minute limit as well, but they even gave us one more "for the road." Their desserts all sounded great but I would recommend the Peach Cobbler. It was delicious.
