Welcome to Benedict Pics where I'm on a quest to find the best Eggs Benedict in Brooklyn. Or Manhattan. Really this is just an excuse to go to brunch and order Eggs Benedict every time. But ratings makes things official!

Eggs "Benedict" @ Chagall Bistro

Eggs "Benedict" @ Chagall Bistro

This time, we made our way to Chagall Bistro in the Park Slope neighborhood at 5th Ave and 5th St. It was surprisingly empty when we arrived for a 1pm brunch. The offerings have slight variations from the traditional brunch menu as it is a Kosher, dairy-free, French Bistro. Almost everything about their eggs “benedict” was tweaked just the right amount of different while still being familiar.

So, um, fancy? with that green sauce. No idea what it was and added no flavor that I could tell.

Base: Bread. The base on this one was different than the usual muffin base in that it was a single ovalish bread slice. The bread itself was tasty, but would have benefited from some toasting. The crust was nice and...crusty but the inside was very soft and quickly turned soggy and fell apart under the runny yolk.
Score: 3

Non-egg protein: Beef Pastrami. Seeing as how Chagall’s is a kosher brunch spot, the choice of beef over a ham product on their eggs “benedict” makes sense and was a nice variation. There were several pastrami slices to cover the entirety of the bread, giving plenty of meat to last through the whole benedict, and it was just a solid pastrami.
Score: 4

Egg: Perfectly runny yolk. The eggs were nice and big and cooked nearly perfectly. There was an ever so slight layer of thicker yolk on the inside but the whites were nice and tightly held together. This was definitely one of the best done poached eggs I’ve had on a benedict.

Sauce: Hollandaise. In addition to being Kosher, the menu indicated that all of Chagall’s items were dairy free, so I’m not entirely sure how this Hollandaise was made, but it was good. The consistency was perfectly Hollandaise-y and the green sauce in that picture while mysterious, added some good flavor.
Score: 4

Sides: Salad and potato cake thing. However the potatoes were too heavy while the salad was too light. The dense cake of potatoes was just too heavy compared to the benedict itself. The salad on the other hand would have benefited from more; more variety of greens, more dressing, and just more salad in general.
