Classic Benedict @ Brooklyn Public House
Brooklyn Public House has a lot of space, but is somehow almost never busy. This pub is also a great place to grab dinner or a few drinks, but here's how their eggs benedict stacks up for brunch.
Base: English muffin. Probably a little too big for an eggs benedict dish, but combined with the other elements, did its job adequately. Although, having a large muffin can really throw off the ratio of a benedict as explained below.
Score: 3
Non-Egg Protein: Smoked ham. Sliced thinner than I usually like, but the multiple layers of ham easily made up for it. The meat also covered the whole muffin, which was impressive considering the muffin of unusual size.
Score: 4
Eggs: One good, one meh, and both too small for reasons already covered. Cutting into the first egg was a little disappointing as it didn’t provide the nice liquidy flow, but the second egg was surprisingly better. Husband also got 2 poached eggs and got the same result, so I’m guessing the cook knew and disappointed us both a little rather than one person entirely. It worked.
Score: 5
Sauce: Hollandaise. The citrus cut the butter nicely which gave it a good flavor, but the consistency was on the watery side and there was definitely room for more sauce. Again, the giant muffin is to blame, it’s not the sauce’s fault.
Score: 4
Sides: Potatoes and salad. The salad consisted of mostly raw shredded carrots and like 5 leaves of greens with no dressing. The potatoes were more of a compliment to all of the onions and peppers that came with them.
