Welcome to Benedict Pics where I'm on a quest to find the best Eggs Benedict in Brooklyn. Or Manhattan. Really this is just an excuse to go to brunch and order Eggs Benedict every time. But ratings makes things official!

Mexican Benedict @ Taqueria de los Muertos

Mexican Benedict @ Taqueria de los Muertos

Tacos de los Muertos may not look like the typical brunch spot, but they sure do brunch right. Saturday and Sunday turns takes taqueria from counter service with delicious, inexpensive Mexican fare and margarita pitchers to table service with delicious, inexpensive Mexican brunch and mango mimosas. There are 3 benedict versions to choose from, and I went with the most classic for this review.

Pretty colorful for a benedict

Base: Bocoles (thick tortillas). I get it. The Mexican Benedict should have a solid Mexican foundation. Regular tortillas are too thin, so a thicker version should have been good. But these were odd. They were just too dense and made the whole benedict very heavy. I couldn’t even finish them.
Score: 2

Non-Egg Protein: Chorizo. Again, the perfect option for a Mexican benedict. The presentation of half a sausage on each benedict half was a little strange and made for less meat than prefered, but the chorizo was packed with flavor and spice.
Score: 4

Eggs: Both pretty good. One was even actually undercooked, which is the opposite problem of most benedicts. The runny yolk provided by the well cooked eggs was a must to help temper the spicy chorizo. Other people I was with had some issues with their eggs being over- and undercooked, so the consistency of their egg cook may not be the best, but I happened to have two similarly well cooked eggs.
Score: 8

It's probably blurry because I was so excited about the rare super runny yolk.

All that yolk mixing with those sauces is just perfect.

Sauce: Chipotle Hollandaise. There was plenty of sauce with good consistency and flavor. The chipotle flavor added just a little bit extra spice, but not too much on top of the chorizo so it didn’t totally burn out my tastebuds. A perfect topping to complete the Mexican Benedict.
Score: 5

Sides: Potatoes/peppers/corn. The potatoes were cooked well and there were enough peppers. But the standout here was the corn addition. It was such a small change from the normal eggs benedict side, but it was surprisingly great. It turned into something I just didn’t know was missing from a side of potatoes that might be disappointingly absent from future potato sides.
Score: 5

Bonus: Tacos de los Muertos should really just call their weekend offerings “Brunch con Muchos Bebidos” because there are so many drinks that just come with your meal. You get water (obviously), choice of coffee or tea, small fruit juice, plus a Chipotle Bloody Mary or Tropical Fruit mimosa (mango when we went). Not unlimited alcoholic drinks, but so many choices you barely need it.
